Perimenopause Therapy
With Tara Arhakos, LPC
I’m certified in perimenopause therapy from both sides; the somatic side that helps chill out your nervous system and the mental health side that helps combat those puzzling symptoms.
But more importantly, I just get it — I’ve been there too!
Do you keep wondering what’s wrong with you?
Who the hell am I anymore?
Can’t focus on anything?
Are you struggling to get all the things done that used to be easy?
You’re dealing with changes that affect your mind, body, sleep, relationships, and self-esteem. Some clients notice that anxiety hijacks their day. Others recognize that irritability shows up in a split second, and you find yourself yelling over the simplest thing.
Brain fog and fatigue weigh you down making ordinary things harder to accomplish, resulting in guilt and shame.
Clients Come To Me When
These are some of the concerns that bring clients into therapy during perimenopause and postmenopause:
Brain fog
Intrusive anxiety
Sleep problems
Irritability
Lethargy and disinterest
Self doubt
Overwhelm
Unmanaged emotions
How Perimenopause Therapy With Me Works
We start with education. I’ll help you understand what perimenopause is and where hormonal changes overlap with mental health symptoms. Knowing what’s happening to your body makes it easier to understand without assuming something is wrong with you.
Then we build grounding skills together. You’ll learn ways to stay present when anxiety or irritability kicks in instead of getting hijacked by it. We’ll also work with thoughts, relationships, your body, and the patterns that keep you overwhelmed.
My Approach
-
Uses body-based practices to calm the nervous system and help you stay present when anxiety or irritability rises.
-
Builds practical ways to slow down, ground yourself, and stay connected to what’s happening now.
-
Helps you understand different parts of yourself and respond to them with more awareness.
-
Helps you look at thoughts more realistically instead of getting caught in spirals.
-
Uses the therapy relationship as an important part of understanding yourself and your relationships with others.
Your Symptoms Aren’t The Whole Story
Perimenopause changes how you sleep, think, respond, and move through your day. Therapy helps you understand when it’s happening and learn techniques that work to calm your nervous system.
After Perimenopause Therapy With Me
Clients report:
Feeling like themselves
More control over symptoms
More self confidence and empowerment
Better sleep
More patience
Accepting their new normal
The goal isn’t to pretend everything is exactly as it was before. It’s to understand what’s happening and find a new normal that works for you.
“I’m on the journey myself. I know what it feels like to feel confused and lost in your body before you even have words for it.”
About Tara Arhakos, LPC
Hi, I’m Tara Arhakos, LPC.
I work with anxiety, depression, trauma, and the deeply personal shifts of perimenopause and postmenopause. I’ve done my own work, and I know what it takes to work through the physical and mental changes that come with perimenopause.
I don’t rush you into the deep stuff before you’re ready. I know it’s scary to walk into a therapy room and wonder if you’re supposed to tell someone everything deep and dark about you.
We’ll build the relationship first.
I sit on the floor with clients in my office and have coffee. Because I care deeply about the people I work with, the relationship is where I spend so much of my focus.
Outside of counseling, I’m a lover of cappuccinos, punk rock, travel, family, friends, and New Jersey’s beaches.
Availability: I provide in-person therapy in Monmouth Beach, New Jersey, and virtual therapy via telehealth for clients across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, and South Carolina.
